Day 1: Arrival and Pre-Trek Briefing

Upon arrival in Tanzania, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Take some time to rest and prepare for the upcoming trek. 

In the evening, you will receive a pre-trek briefing where the guides will provide important information about the climb, review your equipment, and assist with any necessary rentals from local shops. Enjoy a delicious dinner and get a good night’s sleep.

Day 2: Hotel to Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be driven to the Momella Gate, the starting point of the trek. The drive from Arusha to Momella Gate takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. 

Upon reaching the gate, we will complete all necessary procedures and begin the trek. 

The route provides breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the renowned Momella Lakes. 

Wildlife encounters during this day may include Bushbucks, Cape Buffaloes, Giraffes, colobus monkeys and various bird species. We will continue until we reach Miriakamba Hut.

Day 3: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before continuing your climb. The trail will take you through different vegetation zones, including heather and moorland. 

Along the way, you will witness the stunning Meru Crater, the ash cone, and Little Meru. 

Reach Saddle Hut, situated between the Little Meru and the main summit. Enjoy dinner and rest for the night.

The trek concludes at Saddle Hut. 

Once settled at the camp, we will embark on a short acclimatization trek to Little Meru (3,810m) and return to Saddle Hut.

• Distance: 6km/3.5mi
• Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
• Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day 4: Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak to Miriakamba Hut

This day trek is the most challenging but rewarding. Start early in the morning to reach the summit of Socialist Peak, the highest point on Mount Meru. The trail will involve some steep sections and rocky terrain. 

Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. 

Wildlife sightings such as Mountain Reedbucks and Klipspringers are possible along the rocky ridge. 

Afterward, we will descend straight down to Miriakamba Hut.

• Distance: 19km/12mi
• Hiking Time: 10-12 hours
• Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day 5: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

On the final day of the trek, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before descending to the Momella Gate. The trail will take you through the beautiful forest once again. Upon reaching the gate, you will sign out and receive your certificate of achievement for completing the Mount Meru trek. From there, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Arusha. Take the rest of the day to relax and celebrate your accomplishment.
