Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1Arrival in Arusha
You are picked up from Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred by private vehicle to Arusha for dinner and an overnight stay. If time allows, you can take a walking tour of a coffee plantation or choose to visit Arusha National Park before your big adventure begins. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Tulia, on a half-board basis.
Day 2Safari to Tarangire National Park
Your wildlife safari starts with a 2-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its large herds of elephants and massive baobab trees. After a short registration at the gate, you set off on your first game drive and spend the whole day in the bush, with a picnic lunch at one of the picnic sites. Expect elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, gazelles and the rare gerenuk, and with luck cheetahs, leopards, lions and the rare fringe-eared oryx. Tarangire is also known for its birdlife, including the ashy starling.
Day 3Safari to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, set off for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, crossing the Great Rift Valley with lovely scenery along the way. After registering at Loduare Gate, stop on the crater rim for stunning views and photos, then descend to the crater floor for game drives for the rest of the day, with a picnic lunch at a picnic site (watch out for the kites, which may snatch your food). Often called Africa's Eden, the crater is about 21 km across, and with a little luck you may see the Big Five in one day, along with zebras, hyenas, jackals and cheetahs. Check in at the lodge by about 6:00 pm.
Day 4Safari to Serengeti National Park
Wake early for breakfast, then set off deeper into the wilderness to Serengeti National Park, the land of the big cats and home of the famous Great Wildebeest Migration. After a brief stop at Naabi Hill Gate for registration, the rest of the day is spent on game drives across the endless plains. Game viewing continues until late afternoon, when you check in at your camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5Full Day in the Serengeti
An early-morning game drive is a great option today to spot nocturnal species heading to rest and daytime animals rising for a new day, many of them easy to see by the track sides as they avoid the morning dew. Depending on the season, you may see the herds of the Great Wildebeest Migration (ask our experts about their location). Even without the migration, thousands of resident animals live here, including buffaloes, leopards, cheetahs, lions, elephants, topis, Thomson's and Grant's gazelles, impalas, warthogs and many bird species.
Day 6Fly to Zanzibar
After breakfast, check out, bid farewell to the camp staff and drive to Seronera Airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar, enjoying a last game drive along the way. On arrival in Zanzibar, our representative picks you up from the airport and transfers you to Ocean Paradise Resort on Kiwengwa beach, on the east coast of the island.
Day 7Beach Time and Free Day
Today is yours to relax on the beach at Ocean Paradise Resort. Enjoy free time at the beach hotel and plan your day as you like, whether that means lounging by the ocean or trying one of the water sports and other activities on offer at the resort. There is no fixed program today; the time is entirely your own.
Day 8Spice Farm and Jozani Forest
Today's excursion takes you to the spice and fruit plantations near Stone Town for the famous Spice Tour. Our special tour offers in-depth information not only about spices but also about organically grown herbs and their traditional uses in medicine, cosmetics and cooking. Afterward, enjoy a generous lunch at our guide's home, where you can taste the spices and fruits. On the way back to Ocean Paradise Resort, you stop at Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the last habitat of the rare endemic red colobus monkey, for a walk with a local guide, and can follow the boardwalk into the fascinating mangrove ecosystem.
Day 9Free Day at the Beach
Another day of free time and beach relaxation at Ocean Paradise Resort. Plan the day on your own, unwind by the ocean in the warm sunshine, or try one of the water sports and other activities available at the resort. It is your last full day on the island, so make the most of this individual space and free time before heading home tomorrow.
Day 10Airport Transfer
Enjoy a leisurely morning and breakfast before your transfer to the airport. The drive to Zanzibar Airport takes about one hour, and our driver will be there to pick you up at the agreed time, so please make sure you are packed and ready on time for your flight home. This marks the end of your Serengeti safari and Zanzibar holiday.
